TICA organizes cat shows with a mode of judgment in " Ring".

There are 6 categories:

  • Kitten Class: Pedigree kitten  from 4 to 8 months old.

  • Championship Class: Pedigree cat over 8 months old.

  • Alter Class: Pedigree cats over 8 months old, that are spayed or neutered

  • HHP kitten Class: Non pedigree kitten from 4 to 8 months old.

  • HHP Class : Non pedigree cat over 8 months old, must be altered or spayed.

  • New Breed Class: Kittens and Adults from breeds in development that are not yet recognized in Championship class.

  •

The  judge will handle and evaluate all cats competing in each category according to the TICA breed standards. Cats are presented in  alphabetical order of there breed .

Cats  receive points for color and division placement. These points will be added to obtain a title. This title include  Champion,

Grand Champion, Double, Triple, Quadruple, and the highest title of all: Supreme Grand Champion.

All cat's categories are also competing for the  Regional and International awards for that year.

After the judge has handled all the cats in each category, he or she will select the 10 best subjects. (If there is less than 25 cats presented in the category he will select : 9 for 24 - 8 for 23 - 7 for 22- 6 for 21 - 5 for 20 or less).

In what is know as  a " Final": the top 10 subject  will be presented to the audience and given an award (rosette).

Positive aspect of this system : Cats are judged  by 4 to 8 judges each day  depending on the size of the show.

Negative aspect of this system: If your cat is not selected for the final, you don't know what the judge thought about your cat.  If your cat has no competition in the show, he is the only one in his color, division and breed he will be certainly always the best, but that will not give you an  indication about the quality of your cat.

At the end of the show  you can always ask each judge what they think about your cat, your breeding etc...

Most of the judges will answer with pleasure and professionalism, unfortunately most of them have a flight to catch to go back home, and are not always  available after the show.

Also you can be intimidated  by the judge and feel too shy to ask...
